The Blue Lagoon in Iceland has been evacuated as the Sunddhnúksgígar volcano is set to erupt 'at any moment' with very little warning, with the hot spot in a 'red alert' zone

A volcano in southwestern Iceland that has erupted repeatedly for more than a year again belched lava and smoke into the air, just hours after authorities evacuated the few remaining residents of a nearby fishing village.

While this eruption has not affected the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik or flights arriving and departing from the country’s airports, the Blue Lagoon, which is one of Iceland’s most popular tourist attractions, was evacuated because of the eruption and will remain closed until 3pm on Wednesday April 2 as a precaution.
