After a massive earthquake struck Russia, tsunami alerts were issued for many areas, including Japan, Hawaii and California, the latter of which is nearly 5,000 miles away.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued tsunami warnings and advisories for all of California's coastline on July 29 in the evening. One of the largest earthquakes ever recorded in Russia triggered tsunami warnings all over the Pacific Ocean,

An NOAA map (below) shows the red zone stretch about 130 miles from its southernmost point at Cape Mendocino near Fortuna, California, to near Bandon, Oregon. The area reached as far as 15 miles inland at its deepest point at Cape Mendocino, which is located about 200 miles north of San Francisco.
