Hours of tense negotiations to strike a deal on President Donald Trump’s nominees blew up Saturday night, and now lawmakers are headed home.

Hours after President Donald Trump told Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer to “go to hell” in a Saturday post on social media, the Senate headed into recess without reaching a deal over confirming Trump’s nominees.

Without a deal in hand, Republicans say they may try to change Senate rules when they return in September to speed up the pace of confirmations.
