A Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was damaged by gunfire en route to Haiti and diverted to the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, the airline said.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has temporarily banned U.S. airlines from flying to Haiti following several aircraft being hit with gunfire there. The agency’s flight prohibition applies to all U.

The flight appeared to be part of what the U.S. Embassy called “gang-led efforts to block travel to and from Port-au-Prince which may include armed violence, and disruptions to roads, ports, and airports.
