“ A night of enchanted elegance ” ended in tragedy when a student died in a crash hours after her senior prom, Illinois officials said. At about 4:30 a.m. on May 4, the 18-year-old crashed on a ramp off of Interstate 94 in Calumet City, Illinois State Police said. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Four people, all of them children or teenagers, were killed, and several others were injured on Monday when a car crashed through an after-school center in Chatham, Ill., a village just south of Springfield, the State Police said.

A south suburban family and community was grieving Monday after a Homewood-Flossmoor High School student was killed in a Bishop Ford Freeway crash in Calumet City, Illinois, over the weekend. The family of 18-year-old Tom' Mya Lyons had just sent her off to prom the day before.
