Liberation Day - 9 May 1945 - is a key moment in the history of the Channel Islands as the occupying forces in Guernsey and Jersey surrendered. The German Occupation, which began on 30 June 1940 when troops landed at Guernsey Airport, saw islanders imprisoned, forcefully deported and concentration camps operated on British soil.

The Princess Royal came to Sark to mark the island's 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. After visiting Guernsey the day before, Princess Anne arrived on the morning of Saturday 10 May. The Princess first attended Little Sark and crossed the iconic La Coupée bridge - making her the first royal to do so.

Residents in Little Sark have been enjoying their first royal visit as part of Liberation Day celebrations. The Princess Royal arrived on the peninsula on 10 May to mark 80 years since the Channel Islands were liberated from Nazi occupation during World War Two.
