El Paso County officials initially estimated the fire was 4,000 acres, but revised the size to 3,000 acres Thursday night.

Evacuations were ordered on Thursday afternoon after a fire ignited near the Colorado Springs Airport. According to the emergency alert system Peak Alerts, anyone within a zone stretching from Gusty Bluffs Point and Meridian Road and to the east border of Schriever Space Force Base in Ellicott,

The Meridian fire burned about 3,000 acres east of Schriever Space Force Base, officials with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said about 6 p.m. Thursday. By 9:30 p.m., all evacuation notices were lifted in the area. The fire, which sparked at about 1 p.m., was 70% contained as of 9 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
