OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) - Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Michael McGovern of the Diocese of Belleville, Illinois, as the next Archbishop of Omaha, the Archdiocese of Omaha announced Monday. McGovern will succeed Archbishop George J. Lucas, who submitted his resignation in June 2024 when he turned 75 in accordance with canon law.
