A baby spider monkey that was seized during a traffic stop along a Central California highway earlier this week is now in the care of the Oakland Zoo. California Highway Patrol said the animal was discovered after Madera-area officers pulled over a Rolls Royce on northbound Highway 99.

A baby monkey was rescued by CHP officers earlier this week from a suspected DUI driver in the Central Valley. Primates are illegal to own as pets in California. The tiny monkey is currently living at the Oakland Zoo and receiving vital veterinary care.

When CHP officers stopped a luxury Rolls-Royce Ghost for speeding near Madera, they discovered containers of pot and an illegal pet baby spider monkey dressed in a onesie.

Around 8PM on December 30th, California Highway Patrol pulled over a driver for speeding his Rolls Royce Ghost down Highway 99. According to a CHP Madera County’s Facebook post, the driver was “found to be under the influence and placed under arrest for DUI.” Inside the roughly $400,000 luxury car, authorities found an unexpected passenger.
