A Sunday evening on the Malibu coast took a chaotic turn when an 11-year-old was bitten by a mountain lion, sparking an emergency response that ended with the animal's death.

An 11-year-old girl feeding chickens outside her Southern California home was bitten by a mountain lion, reports say. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, along with the county’s fire department, responded to a report of a child “attacked by a mountain lion,” deputies said in an Aug. 11 email to McClatchy News.

According to sheriff's deputies, the girl suffered a bite to her arm and was taken to the hospital by her family.
