Despite ongoing efforts by firefighters, the Table Rock Fire in Pickens County and the Persimmon Ridge Fire in Greenville County both grew considerably. Table Rock nearly doubled in size to 4,556 acres, according to the S.C. Forestry Commission. The Persimmon Ridge Fire grew to 1,553 acres.
Evacuations were ordered for a fire near Bryson City that was only 10% contained, emergency management officials said Friday night.
Firefighters battling the Table Rock Mountain fire have concentrated on saving lives and property by digging fire breaks that push the blaze north through undeveloped land on the Pickens County ridges near the North Carolina state line, officials said Friday. No injuries have been reported.
