Four people were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of starting the largest mountain wildfire in South Carolina history, officials said.

South Carolina arrested three young men for allegedly starting a massive wildfire after failing to "extinguish their cigarettes in a proper and safe manner."

The wildfire, officials said, was started after the four were smoking on a hiking trail at the state park and did not put out their cigarettes. Sheriff Tommy Blankenship said the group of teenage hikers’ alleged action has cut short efforts to locate Womacks.
