A mother and her 2-year-old daughter were seriously injured in an explosion in Taunton Wednesday. Around 9:50 a.m., an explosion at 78 Plain St. in Taunton was reported to the fire department. When Taunton firefighters arrived, the three-family home was fully engulfed in flames.

Taunton Fire Chief Steven Lavigne provided an update Thursday on the devastating explosion and fire that seriously injured a mother and child.

"When she turned the stove on, all I heard was a big boom, and my daughter, she was screaming and crying, screaming," Germilus said. "I had seen the video of our house on fire, so I thought they had died.

The video footage shows the officer diving into a snow bank before helping a person exit a house adjacent to the house on 78 Plain St. that exploded.

The emergency response was complicated by the more than two feet of snow that fell during Monday’s blizzard.

No foul play is suspected, fire officials said. The explosion’s catastrophic damage prevented investigators from immediately finding the leak’s location or ignition source.
