When Africans woke up to the news this week that seven of the 12 countries on President Trump’s new travel ban list were African nations, the response, for many, was a mix of resignation and anger.

The travel ban imposed by President Trump blocking travelers from 12 countries and partially restricting those from seven others went into effect on Monday.

A longtime critic of Trump, California Gov. Gavin Newsom wrote on X on Sunday that “commandeering a state’s National Guard without consulting the Governor of that state is illegal and immoral.”
