Secretary of State Marco Rubio has canceled visas for people from South Sudan because the country has refused to accept the return of its immigrants deported from the United States.
T he United States once cheered the creation of South Sudan as an independent nation. Now the Trump administration has abruptly revoked the visas of all South Sudanese, saying the country’s government has failed to accept the return of its citizens “in a timely manner.”
Students and other community members at UMass Amherst, UMass Boston, and Harvard University had their visas revoked, school leaders said.
Amid a federal move to revoke student visas, University officials confirmed that four international students at U-M have been told to leave the US.
