Trends in the forecast data have indicated an increased risk for rain, sleet, and snow in portions of Missouri and Illinois on Sunday.
New York City, New Jersey, southern New England and coastal communities along the East Coast faced blizzard warnings and some of the biggest snowfall totals in years.
Airports in Washington, D.C., and along the Northeastern corridor led the list of flight cancellations today as a major winter storm and blizzard hit the region. There were 5,685 flights within, into or out of the United States today that were canceled, according to tracking website FlightAware.
The NYC area may not be done with winter yet. Forecast models show another potential storm early next week that could bring accumulating snow to parts of the Northeast.
The third system that could affect Connecticut arrives in the middle of next week. Modeling shows the storm moving in during the early overnight hours Wednesday and exiting by early afternoon. With warmer temperatures in place by Wednesday, the storm likely will start out as snow and then switch over to rain.
