Box office annihilation: 'Zootopia 2' clears $1B globally faster than any PG-rated pic in history
The animated blockbuster is also pulling ahead of 'Five Nights at Freddy's' to win this weekend's box office contest.

Disney is experiencing the highs and lows the box office has to offer. On one hand, the studio’s animated sequel “Zootopia 2” returned to No. 1 in North America in its third weekend after sprinting past the $1 billion mark.
As of today, Zootopia has grossed more than $232 million domestically and $753 million internationally. Thankfully, rather than protecting its characters, Disney is now allowing anyone to make a Zootopia sequel on their phone.
Released in the Year of The Snake, and with clear nods to East Asian culture, Disney’s latest animated feature has smashed box office records in China.
The issue was first reported earlier this month by The Paper after a concerned consumer surnamed Wang found multiple listings for the Island Bamboo Pit Viper on the secondhand platform Xianyu. Prices ranged from about 300 to 3,000 yuan ($42.5 to $425), with sellers explicitly marketing the snakes as “Gary’s same-style little blue snake.”
