Discord has announced a new teen-by-default stance, meaning that every user will be treated as a teenager – with the corresponding limitations – until they complete an age-verification process that could include facial scanning or presentation of ID.
In order to unlock all these restrictions, users will need to verify their adulthood via something called “age assurance,” which can be done in one of two ways: taking a video selfie for facial age estimation, or submitting an identity document to Discord’s vendor partners.
