According to bookkeeper Shirley Kreutzer, the shop's 10-foot-tall cast-iron giraffe statue went missing Sept. 21 around 5 p.m.

Welsh kept Iron Mike in his front yard at 19 Baltimore Street in Hanover until his death on Dec. 22, 1879, when the statue was moved to Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Baltimore Street to guard over his grave.
