A Memphis group hoped to hold "pop-up" concerts at Mud Island Amphitheater in April, but the city says venue poses too many risks to visitor safety.

A concert series scheduled at the Mud Island Amphitheater for April has been cancelled as the city of Memphis cited “safety hazards” in the projected area.

The outdated lighting rig and the small load-in and load-out area for concerts that these days come with a lot more gear have each been cited multiple times as the reason the 44-year old venue is a hard pass for many of today’s touring acts. (Mark Weber/The Daily Memphian file)
