The Mudcats were lured away from Wake County to the city of Wilson, about 40 miles east of Raleigh, with the promise of a $70 million new stadium and more than $200 million in investment around it.
The news comes after the Carolina Mudcats, the Carolina League baseball team that played at the stadium since 1991, announced a move to Wilson. The team will rebrand as the Wilson Warbirds.
