MINNEAPOLIS — Kirsten Simms scored on a penalty shot to tie it after a successful Wisconsin challenge with 18 seconds left and then delivered the winner 2:49 into overtime to rally top-seed Wisconsin to a 4-3 victory over No. 2 seed Ohio State in the championship match of the women’s Frozen Four on Sunday.

Unflappable Kirsten Simms scored the tying goal late and the winner in overtime as the Badgers pulled out an improbable win over the Buckeyes.

The Wisconsin Badgers women's hockey team expanded on their program's dominant history by winning their record eighth national championship on March 23. It's the most in Division I women’s hockey history, but they already owned the record when they captured their seventh title in 2023.
