Texas is breaking tradition and shaking up college football by eliminating their spring game in favor of NFL-style OTAs under coach Steve Sarkisian. With the challenges posed by the transfer portal, the Longhorns are focusing on player development rather than exhibition games.

Texas will join a growing list of college football programs doing away with traditional spring games in favor of a slightly restructured practice slate, coach Steve Sarkisian said during a recent appearance on the "Up & Adams Show.

If Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian doesn't want to play a spring game, more power to him. But the Horns would be wise to still meet their fans.
