The Eagles had a contingency plan in place when two of their franchise pillars, Kelce and Fletcher Cox, retired in the offseason. They spent a 2022 second-round pick on Jurgens. Then, in 2023, they drafted Jalen Carter No. 9 overall. Both Jurgens and Carter were named starters in the Pro Bowl in their first seasons in their new full-time roles.

The NFL announced the Pro Bowl rosters for the AFC and NFC, and the Philadelphia Eagles had six players make the roster, led by Saquon Barkley and Jalen Carter. Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun, Jalen Carter, Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson, and Cam Jurgens made the roster, and Carter, Baun, and Jurgens made the list for the first time.

Baun had primarily been used as an edge rusher and special teamer, and depth at a relatively small salary cap hit — $1.6 million — was on the mind when Howie Roseman signed Baun. The Eagles, though, got much more than they bargained for.
