FOX 35 Orlando on MSNTropical Storm Chantal gathers more strength; heavy rain, storms to impact Florida: NHC
Tropical Storm Chantal has gathered more strength and is expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the FOX 35 Storm Team.
"Should development take place on the Atlantic side of Florida, it may once again drift northward toward the U.S. coast," Accuweather said on July 11. The more plausible option is development on the Gulf side, which could be steered westward along the northern Gulf Coast, the weather forecast company stated.
Tropical Storm Chantal has a chance at forming over Fourth of July weekend. Regardless, rain is expected across Florida.
About 24 hours after landfall, Chantal is now a tropical depression, as it wanders across Virginia. The National Hurricane Center is tracking four tropical waves, including one in the Caribbean. Temperatures across Florida July 7 are expected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.
