Press the "Num Lock" key to activate the numeric keypad on your keyboard. You cannot type ASCII symbols from the regular line of numbers at the top of the keyboard.

Open a new Notepad document and press your keyboard's "NumLock" key to activate your keyboard's numeric keypad. A light comes on at the top of the keyboard letting you know that NumLock is active.

ALT codes on Windows may not work if the Num Lock is turned off, as this controls the numeric keypad. Also, ensure that your language settings are correctly configured in Windows.

There's no copyright symbol on any common keyboard, but it's easy to insert the symbol whether you're using Windows or a Mac.
