A plane crashed early Thursday at Statesville Regional Airport, about a 45-mile drive north from Charlotte, according to airport officials.

Popular NASCAR Motorhome driver Craig Wadsworth died with Greg Biffle and his family in the Cessna 550 plane crash in Statesville on Thursday.

NASCAR said it was shattered by the deaths, adding, “Greg was more than a champion driver; he was a beloved member of the NASCAR community, a fierce competitor, and a friend to so many.”
