Gov. Maura Healey on Thursday called news of an airplane crash in Washington, D.C. that killed six people with ties to a Massachusetts figure skating club “devastating.”

Two teenage figure skaters, their mothers and two renowned skating coaches were identified as victims of a fatal crash involving American Airlines Flight 5342.

Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who won the pairs title at the 1994 world championships and competed at the Winter Olympics twice, were aboard the plane, officials said.

The Skating Club of Boston lost two coaches, two young skaters and their two mothers in the deadly crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 in Washington, D.C.

Passengers on the jet that collided with an Army helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday night included a group of figure skaters and their parents and coaches with ties to Massachusetts.

Fourteen members of the U.S. Figure Skating team, six of whom are affiliated with the Skating Club of Boston, were on the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac River.
