Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston said he introduced the legislation after seven downstate Illinois counties — Calhoun, Clinton, Greene, Iroquois, Jersey, Madison, and Perry — voted in November on a ballot referendum to secede from the state.

House Bill 1008 creates a commission to explore moving the state borders to bring some Illinois counties into the Hoosier state.

"If Illinois residents and counties are looking for something different, we're simply raising our hands and saying, you'd be welcome in Indiana," Speaker Todd Huston said.
