WASHINGTON (AP) — Support for Israel’s military action in Gaza has declined substantially among U.S. adults, with only about one-third approving, according to a new Gallup poll — a drop from the beginning of the war with Hamas, when about half of Americans approved of Israel’s operation.
Sixty percent of Americans disapprove of the Israel-Hamas war, compared to 32% of respondents who approve, according to a Gallup poll released Tuesday. The approval rating sets a record low since the pollster started asking the question in November 2023, one month after Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7.
The toll reported by the Gaza Health Ministry, which is run by Hamas and whose numbers are widely accepted by the United Nations and other international institutions, includes combatants as well as civilians.
The U.N.-developed panel, known as IPC, said conditions “worsened dramatically” in recent months, with food consumption at its lowest level since the conflict began.
Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish said India has been clear on the short-term measures to the Israel-Palestine conflict and said there are no alternatives.
