Israeli strikes or gunfire killed at least 78 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Monday, including a pregnant woman whose baby was delivered after her death but also died, local health officials said.

Israel announced Sunday that the military would pause operations in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah and Muwasi for 10 hours a day until further notice to allow for the improved flow of aid to Palestinians in Gaza,

The Israeli military said “humanitarian corridors” would be established for safe movement of United Nations convoys delivering aid.

Israel said Monday that more than 120 truckloads of food aid were distributed by the U.N. and aid agencies in the Gaza Strip, French news agency AFP reported. Both aid groups and people with family in Gaza described the situation as the worst it has ever been.

The president described the food crisis in the enclave as a “terrible situation,” and said the U.S. would set up food centers and fund the effort along with European nations.
