Padres Receive Timely News After Dylan Cease Trade Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Right-handed starting pitcher Dylan Cease is in his second season with the San Diego Padres after debuting for the Chicago White Sox in 2019.
But, in an update from USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Padres' plans surrounding Cease got an interesting update. While the rumors only started within the last week, Nightengale revealed the Padres have been exploring trades for much longer.
These Padres, after all, are in a much better spot — eight games over .500 — than the team was in 2023 (three games under) when Preller decided to keep Blake Snell and Josh Hader and hope that the most expensive team in franchise history had something left in the tank.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden has proposed a three-team trade deal that would send Boston Red Sox left fielder Jarren Duran to the San Diego Padres ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
While the Padres have yet to make a trade prior to the deadline, New York added to its roster on Friday by acquiring lefty reliever Gregory Soto from Baltimore. Soto made a positive first impression on Sunday with a 1-2-3 seventh inning that included a strikeout.
The Padres had 11 hits but failed to score a run in a 3-0 loss to the Cardinals. They’ll be looking for bats at the trade deadline.
