Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Google announced Thursday it's ditching dessert-themed names for versions of its Android operating system, switching instead to numbered identifications.

"So, this next release of Android will simply use the version number and be called Android 10. We think this change helps make release names simpler and more intuitive for our global community.

For instance, Android 12 previews used “S” to denote the Android version. With Android 13, though, Google is using the desert name in a rather public-facing manner, which is certainly surprising!
