I thought about this as I was fly fishing in a small stream that flows into the Gallatin River. The Gallatin River is a large river that is very popular in Montana and Wyoming.

The Gallatin River flows approximately 120 miles from the northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park to join the Jefferson and Madison Rivers to form the Missouri River near Three Forks.

The river has always been the pride and joy of our community. Many used its reputation as a “blue ribbon trout fishery” to entice visitors and growth to the area.

The park, in coordination with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and Custer Gallatin National Forest, will close a 9.6-mile stretch of Soda Butte Creek to the public Aug. 14-18.
