Crater Lake’s visitor numbers continued to fall in 2024, with the Oregon national park posting its lowest annual count in more than a decade.

In an email to SF Gate, Crater Lake information officer Marsha McCabe confirmed that all access to the lake will be cut off and that visitors will only be able to enjoy views of the lake from above.

The volcanic crater lake attracts thousands of visitors each year. Those wanting to enjoy the deepest lake in the U.S. will need to schedule a visit soon, before access closes for more than two years.
