Recently appointed as Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney has announced a snap election in response to escalating trade tensions with the United States under Donald Trump. The election campaign will last five weeks before Canadians head to the polls.

The library’s official entrance is on the U.S. side of the building, but new changes will have Canadians enter from their side of the border.

By Oct. 1, all Canadians will be required to use the entrance to the Haskell Free Library and Opera House on Canada's side of the border, the U.S. government said.
