"Somebody who would really be great is Lara, she grew up there," Trump said of his daughter-in-law in discussing the North Carolina Senate seat.
Donald Trump on Tuesday floated his daughter-in-law Lara Trump as a possible replacement for U.S. Senator Thom Tillis, who will not seek reelection in North Carolina after clashing with the U.S. president over his tax-cut and spending bill.
Currently, two candidates are running for Senate: former Rep. Wiley Nickel, a Democrat from Cary and former NAVY JAG officer Don Brown, a Republican.
Lara Trump, President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, is reportedly considering a run for the open seat. Lara Trump is a North Carolina native and currently hosts a show on Fox News.
