The body of 62-year-old Marites Buenafe, a missing cruise passenger, has been found after she vanished while on a solo hike in Alaska, authorities have said.

Security cameras last spotted her at the top of Mount Roberts Tramway. She departed the buildings around the time she sent a text to her family, police added.

Teams of volunteers searched the local Mount Roberts area on foot, as well as deploying drones and helicopters. However, officials noted that poor weather limited the effectiveness of air operations.

State troopers said Buenafe texted her family at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, saying she was headed to Mount Roberts Tramway and planned to hike Gold Ridge to Gastineau Peak. Need a break?

Juneau Police say security footage captured Buenafe at the top of the tramway around 7:30 a.m. that day, but there’s been no sign of her since.

“Security footage showed her at the top of Mount Roberts Tramway departing the buildings at about 0730 hours,” the bulletin said. “Searches of the area have been unsuccessful in locating her.” ...
