SpaceX sent 26 more Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit on Tuesday (July 15), after a launch from southern California. A Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 7:05 p.m. PDT local (10:05 p.m. EDT or 0205 GMT July 18), escaping the fog and cloud cover blanketing Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base.

At present, the Starlink satellite constellation possesses a combined network capacity of almost 450Tbps, with a median peak latency of 25.7 milliseconds for American customers, thanks to its strategically placed gateway sites. The company hopes to reach a stable 20 millisecond median latency soon.

Each one of these new satellites is designed to provide over a terabit per second of downlink capacity (> 1,000 Gbps) and over 200 Gbps of uplink capacity to customers on the ground,” Starlink says. “This is more than 10 times the downlink and 24 times the uplink capacity of the second-generation satellites.
