University officials called for the Turkish doctoral student's “release without delay,” according to court documents filed Wednesday.
Sunil Kumar who became Tufts’ 14th president in 2023, is the first person of color to hold the office. He addressed Ozturk’s apprehension, emphasizing the university’s lack of prior knowledge and ongoing efforts to understand the situation.

Sunil Kumar, who is the 14th president of the 170-year old Tufts University located outside Boston and the first person of colour to hold the post, has traversed through several US universities, including 14 years at Stanford Business School and five years as dean of university of Chicago’s Booth School of
