In March 2001, the world watched in horror as the Taliban destroyed the famous colossal Buddhas of Bamiyan, hewn from living rock at the dawn of the seventh century and hailed as extraordinary examples of Gandharan sculpture.

This publication presents the results of work to date in securing the remains of the world-famous Buddha statues of Bamiyan, which were blown up by the Taliban in 2001.
