Arabesque can be a difficult shape to find, especially if you don’t have a dance background. It is a very unusual position. We are naturally born with very little hip extension. The rest of our extension actually comes from a combination of the movement of the lumbar spine along with the hip. In arabesque, we add slight rotation and external rotation of the leg.
