On August 24, 1990, HMC Ships Terra Nova, Athabaskan and Protecteur departed from Halifax for the Persian Gulf. It was the first time in decades that Canadian air and naval forces worked together in combat. This was also the first time Canadian women served in combat roles during a conflict.
