Gray whales migrate through California's waters between December and April, from the summer feeding grounds in the Arctic to their calving grounds in the lagoons of Mexico's Baja Peninsula. They undertake one of the longest annual migrations of any mammal, traveling 12,000 miles round trip! So far this population of gray whales seem healthier than previous years, when they didn't find enough food to eat during summer.
