In 1971, Daisuke Inoue, a Japanese musician, built the world’s first karaoke machine using just a car radio, an amp, and a coin box. Called the “Juke 8,” it let anyone sing along to instrumental tracks for 100 yen a song. Inoue never patented his invention he wanted karaoke to reach everyone.
