All rom-com references aside, this is a very powerful scene. Ted sees potential in Roy that he's reluctant to reach. Ted knows you can't be too heavy handed when it comes to helping people realize their truth. Granted Ted isn't the greatest at being low-key, but I think with this one he toed the line pretty well.
