In the heart of historic downtown New Iberia, surrounded by gracious live oaks, historic homes, and the cultural landscape of Bayou Teche, stands the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. Built in 1941 on the former campus of St. Peter’s College, the concrete and Louisiana marble grotto was created through the efforts of Brother August, FSC, Mrs. Yvonne Patout, and Mr. Eugene Guillot. It commemorates the 1858 apparitions witnessed by Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, where the Virgin Mary identified her
