In 1979, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini assumed control of Iran. Iranian militants seized the U.S. Embassy and took more than 50 Americans hostage. Exactly two weeks after the Embassy takeover, Mike Wallace interviewed Ayatollah Khomeini from the holy city of Qom and asked Khomeini if the hostages would continue being held if the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was not brought back to Iran.
