Gibbs artifacts, also commonly referred to as truncation or ringing artifacts, appear as a series of fine lines in the MRI parallel to areas/tissues that show a large difference in contrast. This is commonly seen in the spinal cord where there is a large difference in contrast between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and the spinal cord.
