The Kokoda Track campaign involved some of the fiercest battles fought by Australian troops during World War II. After the fall of Singapore, victory on the Kokoda Track was crucial for stopping the Japanese advance across the Pacific. More than 600 Australians were killed in the campaign and over 1,600 were wounded.
